Rehoming Chubbs
Meet Chubbs, Our Sweet 2.5-Year-Old Boston Terrier:
Chubbs is an incredibly loving Boston Terrier with a gentle heart for humans. He shares his home with an older sister, a 9 year old Boxer, and an older 7 year old deaf brother, also a Boston Terrier. Initially, all three got along well.
However, after returning from a vacation, Chubbs unexpectedly began displaying aggression towards our Boxer, lunging at her and biting her, leading us to keep them separated for their safety. This happened two years ago.
We immediately sought help from a renowned local trainer specializing in aggressive behaviors, in addition to continuing to work on aggression with our wonderful bi-weekly trainers. Thankfully, Chubbs maintained a good relationship with our other Boston Terrier—until last week, when he unexpectedly bit him dangerously close to his eyeball. It was unprovoked, and, since Bruno is deaf, he didn’t hear any warning signs. We were nearby and able to intervene, but the situation could have ended so much worse.
We have been keeping him completely separated from our boxer for two years. It is after much consideration, that we have come to the absolutely heartbreaking decision that Chubbs needs a home where he can thrive without the presence of other dogs or animals. His aggression and territorial behavior towards his siblings have created a stressful environment for everyone involved, including Chubbs. Although it's incredibly painful, we believe this is the best path forward for all our dogs.
Here are just a few of the many wonderful things about him:
• Expert lizard and butterfly spotter.
• Fantastic snuggler who loves to give sweet, gentle kisses and get tucked into bed at night. (Seriously, he will march right out of his kennel if you haven't said, "goodnight.")
• Gets super excited for walks and loves to sniff and explore everything.
• In addition to being extremely smart, he learns quickly and can draw correlations between things.
• He knows commands like "sit," "stay,", “down”, "come,", “look”, and "outside potty”, though he may not always mind us when we ask him.
• He's gotten quite skilled at catching cookies.
• Well-behaved indoors; he has never destroyed property. As long as he has a window to look out of while you are gone, he will be happy and entertained.
• While he’s content on his own, he’ll be your shadow if you’re home.
• Crate trained, but accustomed to using a dog door during the day.
• He hasn't exhibited fear of thunder or loud noises. In fact his strength - a fearless approach to life, is sadly his tragic flaw when it comes to other dogs. He’s lucky that his 55 pound boxer sister is a happy, sweet, unassuming pup.
• He can hold his bladder all night but if it's raining, it's best to take him out on a leash. He knows to pee right away...unless (see lizzard remark)
We would love to stay in touch and say hello to Chubbs from time to time, but most importantly, we want him to be HAPPY and SAFE in his new single-pet home. We don’t know how Chubbs is around children but we know he’s such a joy around adults.
He’s up to date on vaccines and is microchipped.
He’s been really cared for in his 2 ½ years (November 28 will be 3). It breaks our hearts to be rehoming him. We are tearing up as we write this. But, Chubbs needs to flourish in a home without other pets.
